Hastings hastily develops - and it's great news!

Hastings is rapidly moving towards becoming the Peninsula's new trendy suburb.

In the past the eastern-side town had long trailed behind it's neighbors when it came to gourmet food options, but no longer. The redevelopment of the Arthur St / High Street corner area to support more foot traffic has created a new mini-food court in the heart of Hastings, and the star of the show is Homestock Eatery. This modern cafe branded as a "ethical eatery", offers burgers, bagels, coffee and various periodic specials, using locally sourced ingredients, and opening out onto the newly paved area. The food is very tasty, and the burger stand head-and-shoulders above all others in this postcode.

The other Melbourne trend that has made its way down to 'Stings in recent years is the booming fitness industry. A few years ago, the only option for a gym-goer here was Pelican Park, the council-owned swimming centre, which features a fairly large gym along with the 25m pool. Now, there is Anytime Fitness, Elite Fitness, Hastings Crossfit, Hastings F45 Training, Pelican Park, and probably another one opening as you read this! The high amount of fitness businesses is great for the town, because it not only helps locals lose weight, get stronger, and look great for the coming summer, but it also ensures them of a great experience and price point, due to the businesses being in such fierce competition with each other.

I'm very excited for the future of this town and hope to see many more small cafes and restaurants like Homestock opening up, and strongly competing against and pushing out the larger, soulless chain stores like McDonalds and KFC that currently dominate the drive-through image of this town. And I'm very impressed with the popularity of gyms here, it gives me a lot of hope for the health and future business potential of the town. Locals should not be worried about more development and businesses opening up. It's all part of the gentrification process, which benefits locals because their main street gains more amenities, offering better products and services for them. If they happen to own a business or a house in the town too, the increased traffic, tourism and general interest in Hastings will benefit them via higher volume of customers, and increases in the price of their property.

So, visit Hastings today and see what all the hype is about!
